This structure was originally
designed in the 1950's as a girl's dormitory and cafeteria. Coeducation
and changes in campus life necessitated the creation of a new entrance
and lobby as well as the renovation of the cafeteria. The lobby was
designed to allow students to socialize in an appealing, friendly
atmosphere before and after dining in the remodeled cafeteria. The
cafeteria itself was redesigned with a more open floor plan to better
direct the flow of traffic, and a new ceiling system was installed to
improve lighting, increase acoustics and conceal the enlarged air
conditioning systems. The Presidential Dining Suite with entrance
canopies completed the project. Thus this building was converted from a
poorly used facility to the center of student life and activity. |
